I was planning on getting a new 140 from DSA in a few months when I move, it measures 48.5x24.5x29, My friend has one with over flows and I really like the dimentions on it. It has a lot of depth to it. I was planning on stocking it with 2 Oscars, 3 large clow loaches,a large royal pleco, a Red Texas or JD and may be 1 Convict. However comperabley priced is the 150, which is 72.5x18.5x29. So which tank would better suit the stock listed above? would it make a diffrence to the fish weather the footprint was 48.5x24.5 vs 72.5x18.5??

i personally prefer deeper tanks.

its not just footprint.

its volume.

do the math on those two tanks:

72.5x18.5x29/231 = 168 g (the 150 label is misleading)

48.5x24.5x29/231 = 149g.

the longer tank is almost 20g more than the shorter one (based on the outside dimensions).

and it has more square inches of surface area. so its bigger all around.

I would go with it. but then I am biased cause I own one :)

depending on the species of fish you like foot print can matter alot i also go for a minimum of 18" deep but would love to have a 24" deep tank

Id personally prefer that 150.

Get the longer tank if you have the room. It give your big cichlids more room between their territorries

Get a 180, 6x2x2.

If you can't, the 150 is a better choice.

Yea I went and looked at the house again today (the guy is finnaly getting his crap out) and I decided to use the tank as a room devider so im gonna go with the 6', probably the 215 from DSA (screw it, you only live once right?) so I might be feeling a couple more O's or even a silver aro in the near future!
