So I got my early Christmas present from my other half today.... a new tank :D 39 inch by 16 inch by 15 inch :D moving my pride and joy (Channa pulchra) in tomorrow :D sho excited to get him out of his little two foot grow out tank into this monster (for a bedsit it is a pretty big tank....) hope it lets him reach his maximum potential, will be so glad to see him swimming properly :) uploadfromtaptalk1382637469364.jpg

Just thought I'd share because I'm so happy - it's my first ever new (not second hand) tank :D and also thought "normal" people wouldn't understand.... lets hope the landlord doesn't complain... he did say I was allowed a tank and didn't stipulate a maximum size :p

Weird but nice dimensions, are you going to scape it or keep it bare?

Hopefully moving him across tonight so will put pics up then :) as for scaping, will be doing quite a lot of rock work for caves, a sand/gravel bed and I might have another go at live plants seeing as I have proper lights this time...
I know what you mean about dimensions, but it gives a better footprint I think than the 48*12 or 14 I was thinking of... when you put it into metric it's 100cm long so it's nice dimensions for people who are used to diddy plastic tanks that are all measured in cm...

Any suggestions of plants that will go well in this tank please? The temperature goes from 18 in the winter to 25 in summer...

I've found green tiger lotus, amazon swords, anubias, and onion plants to be very hardy and easy to grow. I'm keeping all of these with silver dollars, severum, and a melanurus which are all notorious plant eaters, they swarm like piranhas when I feed them romaine lettuce but don't touch screen he plants.

Different species of anubias would work, mosses tied to driftwood, amazon swords could also work...

All are pretty low maintenance and won't require anything too special...

Ok thank you :) I will give them a go... I am unfortunately completely lacking in green fingers both above and below water, having managed to under-water a cactus and kill java moss... I am hoping that having fluorescent lights will make the difference though :)
