First of all i'd like to say awesome site, i have been lurking for quite some time however i could never seem to get my account to work to post. i re-signed up and its working so thanks..
anyways heres my dilemma -

I currently have a 120 gallon fish tank that houses
2 Jaguar Cichlids – 8”
1 Midas Cichlid – 8”
1 Red Tail Catfish – 16”
1 Pleco – 5”

Now I KNOW that I am going to have to get a larger tank for my Redtail catfish so I wanted some opinions/options on what I can house him with.
I think I would like to keep my jaguars and midas together in the 120 with perhaps a few other dither fish.

But in my new tank which will be either a 250 gallon or larger.
I really love Parachromis dovii Cichlids and Peacock Bass the temensis breed.
But I have a feeling that they will not be able to live together?

What are tank mates that the Dovii can live with. I have read them as being very aggressive and I have read that the peacock bass aren’t as aggressive but are fun to feed because they are so hungry sort of like Oscars? Is this true?
If so what are tank mates I can have with the peacockbass?

Obviously I will need to get my next large cichlid soon so I can grow him up before being put with the RedTail Catfish?

Any help here?
thanks

Okay, so peacock bass are more friendly and Dovii - and more exciting to watch too perhaps? also getting to be the same size if not larger?

what does make Dovii such a popular species to keep if they require a HUGE tank and can have zero tank mates?

would it even be bad to house a dovii with my big bad ass Redtail catfish?

Depends on tank size. One of the stores I visit has a 1000g display tank that has a pair of dovii housed with a number of other cichlids and some large cats. But in a 250g I ultimately don't think it will work out.

It might work until the dovii (if you can find one large enough) stakes out his territory or until the RTC gets hungry.

It's all about the attitude and their beauty that you have to see to believe. There's just something about owning what is, hands down, the king of all cichlids. My vote is that you get only a dovii pair for your 250 ;) .

What size tank do you plan on putting your RTC in? The aggressiveness of fish settles down the larger the tank, however, in a 250, your Dovii can get pretty rowdy.
