hi there im starting a new saltwater tank that is 220 gallons. I wandering what the best filter is out there. I have read up on Ehiem and fluval and they both have different media. anyone with experience on this matter?

for saltwater you need lots of live rock, tons of flow, and a good skimmer. a sump would be your best bet, cannisters dont cut the mustard in my opinion for saltwater.

just my .02 cents

I heard sumps werent a good idea when the electricity goes out.

If properly set up you won't have any problems at all. Sumps are difficult to understand but once you get it your are set. But if you are set on canisters i would recommend two fluval fx5's at least.
