So i just picked this 30 gallon acrylic pentagon aquarium from a dude on craigslist for $40! It has 2 fittings on the bottom for filtration. Ive only ever used HOB filters, so this is new to me. My questions are: Does this eliminate my ability to run sand as substrate? How do i plumb it that it wont look like crap? Im assuming i have to run a canister type filter underneath. FYI, it will be freshwater. Thanks for the info in advance!

prolly uses a standpipe, a pipe that comes up from the bottom and draws water from higher up in the tank.

It's drilled for a sump. Did he use it for SW or FW? How did the seller have it set up? May not have been the bargain you thought.

It didn't have anything in it, aside from water to show it didn't leak. Still a deal regardless. I showed my local acrylic shop (Plastic Kingdom in Lake Worth, FL), and he said he'd charge at least $500 to fabricate something like this.

WOW....$500 for a 30 gal.??? Give me glass I say glass

Imo a 30 isn't gnna have a high enough bio load for a sump, u could still use one but its just a waste. If the holes are plugged just cover em with substrate and throw an hob or get a xp2-3

I don't intend on running a sump. I have a JBJ EFU-25 id like to run through the two valves that are there, but id like to know how without it looking like crap. A picture would be awesome, but i cant seem to find anything. I was hoping someone would have a pic or idea.

a tall pipe at the back for your outlet into the tank and a short one at front for outlet to canister. search for fluval profile tanks to see what I mean
