So I am the proud owner of a 240 gal tank :headbang2

Now I will need to set up some filtration with killer plumbing

Just tossing this out there for input I am a fan of nu-clear with an external pump.

1- I can see 3 nu-clear canisters 1- bio, 1- mechanical and 1- super fine mesh of some sort (maybe a sponge) with a 1500 gph pump

2- the in take at one end then for the exhaust run a PVC pipe under the sand to the other end then up not quite half way

3- two wave makers located at one third and at two third mark both facing the same direction should cause a river effect in theory right?????

Ok just a theory what do you guy and gals think

your going to need more bio than that for you 240

Wouldn't 1 nu-clear canister full of ceramic bump bead be more then enough bio? One Nu-clear should hold a big load, I am not a fan of the bio balls IMO they take up more room then they need to

I have almost 5 gallons of ehiem bio in my ehiem 2260 on my 240 and I think that s enough but it can never hurt to have more. But it really depends on the stock if its a heavy stock you need lots of bio but I would call it safe with 5 gallons on a normal stock.

also 1500 GPH running through those canisters and with a 5-6 head height is not going to be near enough flow. Im guessing you might be lucky if its 500 gph full of media and at a 5 foot head.

Not trying to be discouraging to try to tell you ur wrong, just trying to give you some advice on what I know from my 240

Thank you, I was thinking the pump size was not enough but quite a few people try to tell me that is all I need, I want to make sure it is right and I am running this set up on my 110 corner tank with only 1190 iwaki pump

Lol it would seam to me that I need at least 2400 gph and some people come back an say not even that is too much :screwy: I still do not think there is such a thing as too much filtration

Do you put air in you tank

I've only have is a 110g tank 60x18x24
I think I have also a lot of filtration , {mainly the flow not the filter}.
I have a Nu-Clear 533 w/25 micron filter and the 547
BIO Ball filter with a Blue Line 55 HD 1100gph pressure pump witch
I think I should get the next size down on pressure pump for my
planted tank {750-800gph} I do get plenty of flow with 3/4 inch loc-line return but going to replace it with a 48 inch spray bar so that I get an even
flow across the tank. I read online that these filters are max out
high flow rate 1,200gph

No, have my spray bars agitating the suave of the water alot though . And I add a air pump from time to time when people are not coming over to look at the tank. I hate the sight of them.
