So i'm finally going back to school this weekend to begin cycling my 36g bowfront for the new semester. I bought a powerfilter rated for a 55g, a power head and some live plants with my summer earnings and i'm gonna be using gravel and filter media from a previous tank to kick start the cycle. The fish i want to stock the tank with include: 2 keyhole cichlids, 1 polypterus delhezi, 3 pimelodus pictus, and 1 royal plecostomus. My question is: would this work? and i'm not sure on the royals adult size but if its gets too large id be fine with a smaller pleco. Also ive never kept bichirs so i was wondering what a balanced diet would include (i was thinking predator pellets and frozen brine shrimp)

Royals get pretty big. I'd recommend a smaller pleco that maxes out around 4-6". Also, I have heard that sometimes plecos will rasp the slimecoat off of bichirs which can lead to infections (possibly lethal). I have yet to keep plecos with my bichir (but I'm about to give it a try very soon), so I really can say anything from personal experience.

I think the delhezi will get too large for the 36g. I wouldn't give them anything less of a 55g or a 40 breeder because of the width. This is what i feed my bichirs... hikari sinking carnivore pellets, massivore delite, tilapia fillets, market shrimp, earthworms, frozen blood worms. I listed it from most used to least used.

i'd be getting a juvenile delhezi and i'll be upgrading to 55g in less than 2 years would it grow too large before then? (i've heard max size anywhere between 8-12 in)
