Hey guys I just got this tank from a friend it's 2ft tall 2ft long and a foot wide. Don't know how many gallon that is I'm guessing 29, I'm wanting to do a planted tank. I'm not sure if this tank would be a good candidate being its so tall , what do you think and also if it is what would you do with it?!!

It can be done, but its all a mater of what you are willing to spend and what kind of plants you'd want to keep and all
you would defiantly want a good substrate of some sort, I like Eco Complete personally but there are people that do it with simple dirt (research that though before doing something wrong and having bad things happen lol)

if you kept this as a low tech, low light tank, you'd be able to easily keep crypts and mosses and java fern and the like rather reasonably, but if you wanted to do a high light set-up be prepared to spend big $ and do a ton of research

+1

For taller tanks swords and ferns are good choices. In my 29 I've got swords, ferns and mosses. Make sure you have good lighting and that your plants won't out compete each other (for example swords & mosses will overtake grasses). Another important thing is making sure they get enough nutrients. You can buy root tabs & liquid ferts for that, if you need it.

Good luck.

Some dwarf sag or jungle val would do very well in a tall tank low tech. Watersprite hornwort ludwigia rotala swords ferns anubias duckweed frogbit pennywort mosses...etc if your going the cheap route one of the best soils is miracle grow organic potting mix. Make sure its got no fertz or weed killers or any chemicals that could do damage. It must be completely organic. Look up diy Co2 very simple takes less than 30mins to build and all you need is common household items. One of the easiest no maintanence plants are floating plants. Also look up moss wall kinda like a 3d background but better. Hope this helps.
