I'm setting up a new 135 gallon and am looking for opinions. I think I've narrowed down my choices to either a single male Odo or a pair of Motags. Which is a better choice and why? Also do you think my tank would house a pair of Odo's? The footprint is 72.5x18.5x25. Thanks.

well both are very good choices, from personal experience, i would try the odo, or mabey a pair of them, the motas are good to, but they wouldn't fill the tank out as well.

I'd do a single odo.. wouldn't do a pair in there. But it's all in what you find more desirable.

Ok so 3 for 3, Haitian. Thanks, that's what I was leaning towards but I've always wanted Mota's too. They'll still be on my list of fish to keep. :headbang2

Of the two species, the Haitian is more prone to infections like bloat and pop-eye...just harder to keep healthy. If you went that route you could keep them with a divider. Best option is to grow them up together. Better choice would be some of the Motaguense. More color...not as large...just as much attitude.

Oh GREAT!! THANKS A LOT MO! (<--sacasm) lol. I had my mind just about made up and here you go throwing a me a curveball. You know how much I respect your opinion and you went against the grain on this. Now I'm re-thinking my plan. :wall: I just may take you up on that.

seriously I dont think there is anyone out there who wants to keep a hatian as badly as I do. Although I am holding off to another time because I have been told that they are sensitive and not as easy to care for like other cichlids. I already have to deal with discus every day so I don't need more sensitive fish. Maybe after all my discus die then I will try a hatian. Word of adive though if this decision is simply a 50/50 I would go for the motas, if your willing to do the extra wc and the sepcific diet then by all means do the hatian and post pics right away lol
