Hey guys,
Have picked up a 1000L(264G) IBC which is roughly 3ftx3ftx4ft, will be putting viewing windows on it.

With about 300L sump.

Isnt setup yet going to take some time, but not sure on what to put in there,
Would love some ideas.

Thanks.

could be a wicked turtle tank
or maybe something like mudskippers with puffers and bumblebeegoby's but that is quite expensive and hard to maintain
Could also be a nice africancichlid tank

Lower Jaw Polypterus species with the exception of the Ornate Bichir.
Senegal and Delhezi my personal favorite's.

Could do a large community of small-ish growing CA cichlids. I wouldn't do fish that grow over the 8" mark because there is only 3' in any direction for potential victims to run, but with this many gallons you could do an amazing setup of all different amatitlania/cryptoheros, smaller hericthys, etc. One of my "dream setups".

I would pick, say, 4 species and do groups of about 10 each. Some good species would be:
P. panamensis, any amatitlania fish such as sajica, thoricthys maculippinnis, hericthys tamasopoensis, Centrarchus, P. nebuliferus. Plenty more CA's in this size range.
Then I would also do a large shoal of ameca splendens. Very nice livebearer from mexico that is more boisterous than swordtails, etc. and hold up to CA aggression well. They also give birth to very large fry which would have a better chance of surviving, some would get eaten but you could have a steady population.

Alternatively, you could do something just like this, but with all SA cichlids. That has been done much more than this, and would be easier to get to work. The CA cichlids are nastier to each other, and the setup I mention above probably would require a bit of work to get the mix right.

Just make sure it's food grade! You don't want plastic poisoned fish!

Decided to change my diy sump idea into 3 or 4 diy gravity canister filters from 20L buckets with 5000lph pumps on each will sit above the IBC towards the back. With each having poly wool top and bottom inside bucket and inbetween have ceramic noodles/marine pure balls and purigen just before exiting back into tank.

Pretty much just DIY fx6, has the same volume and with the height they will be at will have the same LPH.

Going to overstock it a little bit with 2-3inch American cichlids at the start and as they grow pick out which ones i want to keep then move on the rest. Not sure if i will put driftwood in or not might be best to have empty so there is no territories.

Whats your thoughts?

Considering how easy this is to setup, tempting to get another ibc aswell. Haha.
Its in my garage and since ive given up on trying to get a 8ft tank past the missus to go into the house.
