I have bought a new 100 gallon tank with all the goodies, and need advice on setting it up. I have not had one of these in many years, so dont know all the tricks. Bsically i am a Noob...LOL It will be a freshwater tank. TIA

This is what came with it,

1. Emp 400 HOB
1. Fluval 403 Canister
1. Glass tops set with hindges, no crack scratches
1. 48" Single bulb fixture
1. 300wt Heater

what kinda filtration do you have...that's usually the biggest part to start really

i agree with bass lover.... fill it up... after setting everythign up... put the bio media in the canister( try not to use carbon right away) and toss in about a dozen or two of goldfish.... let the emp 400 do allt he mech filtration and in about 2-3 weeks you should be close to cycled

And with a few less goldfish LOL ... that has always been my way of cycling a tank however some people on here beleive in fishless cycling... Add Amonia and wait LOL ... personally I enjoy seeing the movement in the tank ... makes me feel better than just having it sit there with water... wasting electricity for nothing LOL

Bump,

Thanks For the info, but I am a real Noobie when it comes to this. So i could use all the help i can Get.

Waht's wrong with you people? Do you live in the dark ages of cycling with fish??? That went the way of using carbon in all filters.

Don't bother cycling with diseased fish. It takes up to 8 weeks. You can cycle & fully stock a tank in 7-10 days: FISHLESS CYCLING

Pufferpunk is right, all you ust do is heavily seed your tank and wait a little less. Perhaps toss in some raw shrimp and let that help too.
