Hello All:

I just bought a 55 gallon acrylic tank for and have finished scrubbing it down. It's dimensions are 48" in length, 12" in width and 20" in height. I'm pretty new to the hobby and i would only want to put something in the tank that could and would truly enjoy it. I don't mind having a single fish or keeping a species only tank. I should also mention that it has two top black dividers for placement of hoods or what not. I have been looking into Green Terrors, minnows (of the shark variety), Oscars, Tiger Catfish, Amazonian Puffers, etc. I would prefer to keep an only freshwater tank. I don't mind having live plants as i see that as an extra enjoyable and difficult addition to the hobby. I would also prefer a more intelligent fish that would easily recognize me as the 'feeder'. Please feel free to post any opinions or recommendations that you'd like! I would love to get some great suggestions!

I aim to keep a journal of my tank's progress from month to month and the condition of the fish. I am new to the forum and know the great reputation MFK has for expertise, knowledge and enthusiasm!

Best Regards and Thank You In Advance!

I love my bala sharks. but as soon as i move them to their new home I will be converting my 55 into a cichlid tank.

a school of bala sharks would be cool
until they outgrow the tank
but it would take awhile for that
green terrors also a great idea

Yes my bala's will be moving to a 240 gallon on or around my birthday in march, I have been saving like a mad man for it.

I dont think green terrors go well with plants, neither do oscars. but there are lots of ca/sa cichlids that can be housed with plants and they are in general owner responsive. go to the ca/sa subforum in the cichlid section and do some research.
