In The Little Town Of Bedrock!
Hello everybody, I have a fish keeping addiction. Just last week I bought my biggest yet, its 8' long. Please help me?! :D

So the 8' tank... needs a little work. I honestly don't feel safe filling it until I fix it up. Its dimensions are 96"x18"x15" and has a fairly shotty coast to coast DIY system hooked up. The guy drilled the holes in the tank for it to flow into a custom overflow box which then has two 1" holes in each side.

But heres the problem the guy has a divider in the middle of the tank sectioning it off into two 4' tanks. I wanna remove it and I was thinking of using a dremel to cut it out and then file it down so it was completely gone. To make up for the removal of that I want to add six 4" braces to the top and also because the guy didn't have an cross braces:nilly:

The tank is made of what appears to be 1/4" acrylic which also has me a bit nervous so thats why I'm adding those extra braces as well.

I'll try and get some pics up soon but until then lemme know if the plan sounds alright?

Spencer the addict :D

If that center divider is glued to the acrylic with weldon or a similar product, you are going to have a hell of a time getting it off and I am not sure you will ever get the acrylic to the point where you will not notice it was there. I think a better solution would be to cut out the center area of the divider to open up the tank leaving an inch or two in place all the way around.

That was basically the plan, but I'm gonna try and dremel it down so no fish accidently swim into the 1" or 2" along the sides. I'm also not to worried about getting it to the point of not seeing it. I'm hoping for this tank to be a growout and I'll try to twist my parents arms into letting me get something bigger :headbang2

Will adding cross braces make up for the reinforcement I'll be losing by cutting it out? Also what would be the best tool to use for cutting it?
