I decided to start a couple smaller tanks to enjoy the smaller side of the hobby. :D I had been researching various Apistogramma, Dicrossus, Taeniacara and Laetacara and decided to build a tank for Laetacara curviceps. I really want to gain some experience with this genus. The male is 1.5" TL and the female is 1" TL.

This tank is in my dining room and I really enjoy seeing them. The wood is the ADA branch wood, white sand, smooth stone and various plants. This tank is a nice starter tank for them.

Here is a FTS of their growout tank. I have another 3D background for a 29 gallon they will share long term. This 10 gallon will go underneath for fry or a place I can move the female, to get a break for the male if needs be.

I still have to decide on a lighting, order the Eheim 2211 canister and buy a better stand but this is a nice start. What do you guys think?

That looks really great. I love the riparium look, it seems like it is gaining popularity

your aquascaping is very nice

Justin, if you ever want to try dorsigera let me know. I have 12 F0 that are spawning like crazy in a 55 gallon and about 25 F1 from them that are approaching 1". I am about to start thinning them all out!

Thanks! All the plants look a little too big because they are going in a much taller tank so scaping is a little akward. I had fun with my kids putting this tank together though. Only the water lettace (sp?) and the onion plant are staying in this tank long term. The big Spathiphyllum will move to their next tank. I am looking right now for the tank over tank iron stand (29g top, 10g bottom).

Thanks Ryan, I may take you up on that. Ironically, when I got the call from the LFS manager he said they had L. dorsigera but they where L. curviceps wheh I got there. No biggie though. They had Taeniacara candidi and Dicrossus maculatus as well but all females.. :( It's probably for the better though..

Very nice. A very interesting species. And very nice setup!

I wish we had LFS like that in my area! No one here has even heard of Taeniacara. I'm tempted to set my 40 gallon breeder up for these guys, or Dicrossus. I could probably manage R/O water in a small tank. :)

Thanks Dave. I am excited to be keeping some small tanks again. I just measured the other 3D background I have for their next tank and it won't quite fit a 29 gallon.

It's 24"x14.5 so I'm going to have to find an odd size tank. Kind of a bummer.

Yeah I have been asking for them both for a while now but I don't want a single sex tank. I would rather have a male/female of a given species than a lone female of something I really wanted you know? R/O is the only way to go in my area. Vancouver's tap sucks. Really high in calcium. :(

very cool start.I think you'll enjoy keeping them.
You may be able to use that size background for a 20 high if you just add about an inch and a half of gravel/sand etc to the bottom.Just a thought...
