Hello.

I'm planning a new tank. My last one was 10 years ago, male mbunas. This tank will be too small for them and anyway I want to try tangs.

It will be 200 litres, 90cm length. Budget is not an issue but space for this tank is so that's my max size.

What would you put in it for a colourful active display? I will also put some easy plants in there.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to MFK!!

What are the full dimensions of the tank?

Thank you and thanks for your interest in my question.

It's an Oase Highline 200 (I can't link). 90cm x 50cm x 49cm = 35 x 20 x 19 inches. About 52 US Gallons.

I did not have luck with my Tangs and plants, and IMO there are no easy plants. ?

Tangs are not know for color but rather for behavior. The colorful one is leleupi and I would not do leleupi in a 35" tank.

In 36" my favorite Tang tank was a pair of calvus and a pair of caudopunctatus. Lots of black-white-silver.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm also looking into another location for the tank which would get me into the 5 - foot range (say 400 litres).

I think I need to nail down this question first before going further.

Thanks!!

What about Neolamprologus caudopunctatus? I think they are stunning fish and would use all the levels of the aquarium and adding some piles of rocks would allow them to have places to spawn.

I had a great experience keeping six to eight adults in a slightly smaller tank and they bred prolifically and raised young without any issue. Others did not have luck keeping more than 1 pair or trio.

They really are beautiful fish. Thank you for suggesting them.

Something I am pretty concerned about is managing the fry though. There's no one to take them from me here so I would need to cull.

Also, as I think more about it, I am considering trying a heavily planted set up this time. A community tank on a large scale (we are looking now at 400L/100G tanks, around 4.5 - 5 feet in length).

Thank you again for the replies here. I will update when I have made a decision on the tank size.
