Hey all,

I am in the plans of a new tank. Measurements are 180cm x 90cm x 65cm high. I will be having a sump on it as well as 2 canister filters with in built UV lights.

Current inhabitants for the new tank are a female Motoro ray, an ornate bichir, a senegal bichir and maybe 100 cardinal tetras just for fun for my son until they get consumed.

My questions are the following
1/ How many rays could I have in the tank
2/ The tank will be glass, is it needed to brace around the bottom edges

Thanks :)

I would probably stick to 1 ray in that size as a female motoro can get huge. I am not sure I would bother with 2 external canisters though, much prefer more sump space and the externals consume a lot of electricity for what they do.

If you have the location for an Auto drip and overflow to waste I would go for that and a fresh water feed near the tank and easy empty is easy for water changes.

Not sure what you mean about braces for bottom corners as the bracing goes around the top on the open part of a glass tank.

Could I have a couple of rays in the tank if they are small?? My current ray is 7 months old and about a 5" disc. Thought I'd be able to have a couple for a couple of years until they get to a 10-12"disc and then they'll end up in a 8/10 x 4 tank.

Yes, you would be fine for a while just as long as you can upgrade later, is there a reason why you don't go straight to the 8x4 now? I wish I had gone bigger when I did mine, now I need to do it all again and go 6x4.5x2.5 unless I can convince the wife to allow 7 or 8.

Yeah I can't go the bigger tank as of yet as I still live at home with the parents. I plan to buy a house in the next couple of years and a stingray tank or two will be the first thing I get.

Yeah I can't go any bigger due to still living at home with the parents :) Hoping to have a nice little collection of rays to then move into a bigger tank in 2 years or so.

And I can't set up an auto drip system either, the tank will be getting 30-40% water changes weekly. Have been doing less in my current tank with a ray and everything's been working well but the place of the new tank makes water changes easy.
