My new tank is 7'x42"wx30"h with two outside overflows. There is two 1.5 inch bulkhead slots for drains.

The trickle filter will be approximately 5 feet long and probably 2 feet wide. I am wondering how many gph and pumps you would reccomend. I am a big fan of two pumps only because I have have had one on a system before and it has failed. Not a good day so I want back up.

I have two 3600 pumps on my 8x4x2, but You'd have to build a considerable amount of depth above only two 1.5" overflows to drain that much water. Which you may be able to do pretty easily depending on how your overflows are set up.

Sorry I should have clarified it is 2 1.5 per overflow, so 4 drains.

2 3600 hey? Isnt that loud? What kind of pumps?

sequence reeflo dart. very quiet and about half the energy consumption of comparable pumps. downside about twice the price.
