Not dense enough foliage IMO.
Also, take the heater out as they Stewartii are sub-tropical.
And lighting is too bright. Channa like very dimly lit tanks.

Whats the fish in there right now?

You need a lot more hiding places. Try adding more driftwood, big pieces. Also, you can try other floating plants, like water lettuce or salvinia. I'm not a big fan of duckweed, because it's way too small. I agree with tokyo about the heater and the lighting.

Theres a gachua in there atm hence the heater, hes very lively always swimming around has a hiding place under the driftwood on the left, will most lfs sell salvinia?? is it a big plant?

how do i get dimmer lighting?? surely the plants will provide cover to lessen the amount of light which breaks the water??

The tank is in a conservatory at the back of the house no sun ever gets to it and it gets pretty cold in there!! will it not be slightly too cold??

Thanks for all the input!! the fish arrive on saturday hopefully and i hope to have the tank totally finished before they come

I think it looks great, just a little bit more plants; floating cover (frogbite, waterlettuce, duckweed, etc) in particular and it'll be perfect

Picking up some salvinia on saturday just before the fish arrive and my mate has a load of bogwood for sale so im going have a look at those

Hi,

as already said, you need lots more hiding places, doesnt matter if these are plants or wood.
Here a few examples:
subtropical planted tank (as you can see there is a pair of sp. redfin living in this tank):

The tank is nearly double as deep as it is wide (220L) !

Another one, subtropical with only few plants but lots of wood, cork bark tubes,... my pair of asiatica live in there, the tank has a quadratic bottom (430L)
YOu can only look in there for the first 30 cm
So the fish have enough space (nearly half a meter twere they can hide and I cannot see them, they really like that !

Another one, same size as the asiatica tank, but tropical (P. obscura) More plants, but also a lot of wood, just ten cm behind the glass, the wood pile begins !

Lots of place to hide

And the last one, tropical too (350L) Channa luci inside. AFter the lighting did not work for a month most of the plants died, but as you can see, there are still a few left, and a lot of wood too, so the fish can not be senn if they do not want to be seen. There are minimum fife C. lucia inside, but I bet you cannot see anyone !!!
