Just picked up my first large tank, right now i run a 30 gallon, and just got a sweet deal last week, bought a new(with stickers, never filled) 38 gallon, with hood for 40$, but that was just bragging about the deal, nothing to do with my question:grinno:.

I bought a 75 gallon, with stand, hood, and fluval 403, and a ten gallon(feeder fish tank) for 102$, and am not at all confident in the sealant, the tank looks quite old, and 75 gallons on the floor equalls a homeless Keith:(. So what is a good sealant to use? I was looking at the GE I and II, i read an article about them on here a while ago, but forgot what it said:screwy:. So are these aquarium safe? How many ten ounce tubes would i need? Is there a sticky on this somewhere? I couldn't find one, i would think there would be.

My basic understanding is that you scrape the old sealant off, clean with alcohol, and mask off where you don't want the silicone, and wet your finger(do you use gloves?) and make the lines. I have also heard it is quite fumy, and i have already done enough brain damage in college......Is this an outdoor activity?

Also, the fluval came with the tank, and no media, or instructions, i do not know how to use it, and it also came with no hoses or anything. btw, this is a glass tank, 48x18. Should i try to use the FLuval? What would i need for it? Or should i just buy another filter, what is good for a 75 with messy fish?

1--- is a few different things... But as long as it doesn't say "Mildew or other Resistant" And is 100% Silicone you should be fine.. I use GE Silicone I As it has a 10 in strength for bonding to glass:) And it is 3.88 at Walmart.. I did this the other day to a 55 g :) I ahve a 150 that is redone too...

2---I Usually clean with acetone myself.. The biggest reason is to clear residue.. In my opinion..

3-Sorry don't own a Canister.. But if I did I would probably have at least some of the Fluval specific media, and some Purigen, and some potscrubbers (I cannot get away from them)

Anyway Hope I helped :)

If you are not skilled with resiliconing tanks.. Then you are going to want to mask off the all edges where you will be siliconing and use a dr's popcicle stick for smoothing:) Then it will look Pro :) I Just use my finger anymore :)

Don't worry about hitting the sides outside your maksing with silicone:) You can razor it off after it cures :)
