I am setting up a 8'x2'x20" acrylic tank with 2 double T5 HO Glo fixtures. 2 questions 1. How high above my tank should I hang the light fixtures?(currently have them suspended 5 inches from tank) 2. I have my fish and my FX5 on my 75 gallon and my FX5 is going to be running my new tank what do I do how can I make this transfer work without puting the fish right in tap water???? If this is the only filter I have how do I make this work???

If it were me...
De-chlorinate your tap water in the new tank.
Shut the valves on the FX5 and remove the hoses.
Put the hoses on the new tank.
Move the FX5 to the new location and connect hoses.
Turn on the valves and plug in...
Move the fish over, and you're done...

What you have to remember is;
The majority of your Benificial Bacteria lives in the media of the FX5.
Chlorine/Chloromines need to be treated before that water goes into your filter because it can kill off the BB.

Move over any decor that also has BB growing on it, it will help to seed the new tank.

I am a believer of SEACHEMS STABILITY, and use it on any new tank I set up...

I agree with Zennzo. Like he said make sure you dechlorinate the new tank water before moving the FX5 (or if you are positive your water has no chloramine then you can let it run with airstone for a couple days before moving the FX5).

FYI on the hose if you wanted you can get a faucet adapter for a few $ at home improvement store to fill the tank with a hose from the faucet to be able to put warm water in it.

So get the tank filled with water let it warm up to proper temp. move plants and driftwood and rocks over then put the fx5 on the big tank let run for say 2 hours then move fish to new tank

I agree with the other posts... de-chlor first, but I wouldn't wait 2 hours before transferring. I would move the fish as soon as you move the FX5 so theres no risk of the BB starving off.
