I have a 75 gallon that I am going to set up and really would like some arrowanas. What is a safe size to start with? Also what else could I put in with them? Can anyone recommend a place to buy the fish?

I'm a cichlid guy myself but have debated Arow's before. What it all comes down to is tank size and I'm sorry to say that you do not have a big enough tank to house one for life. I would assume that you could use the 75 for a grow out but only for a short while.

Well his tnak is plenty big as long as he gets it while its not full grown and has a plane to put it into something larger. I think with arowanas its cool to put them with other ancient fish, try a clown knife, sting rays, gars, polypterus, things like that perhaps?

The smallest(and the most aggressive) reaches 28 inches...too large for 75 gallon for life, but it can live there, alone, for a while. Silvers will outgrow 75 gallon very fast indeed.

I am not one of those people who are aggressive with the tank size but 75 is too small for trying an arowana.

Monster fish tank first, then monster fish.

"Plan" to upgrade is a sorry excuse for being irresponsible/selfish.

If you really plan to upgrade, why not just start with the adequately sized tank?

mte I dont know why people dont get the right size tank first.
