I just recently redid my 55g hexagon tank. I was forced to get rid of my beloved oscar and my Pacu. I had the oscar for a longg time and it was hard to let it go. And in regards to the pacu, they are a great fish to have, but they grow and incredibly rapid rate.
But the whole situation gave me a chance to start over. Now i have one 1 bala shark, 1 red tail shark, 2 pictus catfish, 1 african brown knife, 1 Fire mouth, 1 Jack dempsy, 1 clown loach, and one horse face loach. Everybody seems to be doing very well. There hasn't been any conflict since i set up the tank. I got them all young so they can grow and be comfortable together. They all love the big piece of driftwood i placed in the center of the tank.
I should have some have some pictures up soon. I love the amazon look the driftwood gives the water, the yellow tint is much better then blackwater extract.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

eventually the bala will outgrow the tank, but other than that, the species you have appear to be compatible

other than the bala outgrowing it the only big problem down the road i can see is the dempsey outgrowing other fish and eating them and/or just beating them to death if he ends up being an aggressive individual

Yea i actually got rid of the clown loach because i heard from many people that they will be very unhappy if not in large groups. And the jack dempsey and the fire mouth are getting along much better then i had hoped. And in regards to the bala shark i know they get quite large but they are very slow growers so i have some time to work something out. Any ideas for food suggestions for the pictus catfish and the horse face loach??
I see the bala shark, the JD and the fire mouth eating everything, and see the brown knife eat his share. They all seem to love the blood worms and i am training them to eat cichlid flakes which they all seem to enjoy already.
