Hi everyone I absolutley love the info you have provided me in the week I've been here I spend about 3-4 hours a day just reading. Anyways I am going to start cycling a small 20 gallon tank for some new fish. Anyways was looking for some stocking ideas. My girlfriend and I are doing it together and would like something we could at the very least pair. Something fun and interesting. Also I kind of would like a fun predator if there is one for this size. I want a guy who is going to rip up krill or something fun to watch eat. Also I am interested in trying to breed them for a larger tank so I can learn more. I think thats it I know its a lot and not all these criteria are important but hoping you guys could help. No decision made if I should do Salt or Fresh or anything will listen to any suggestions. My LFS said "figure 8 Puffer" would be pairable for that tank and would be fun to watch eat. I don't know so I will put it to you guys the experts. Thanks for the help!

I wouldn't suggest 2 Figure 8's for a 20G, one yes two no. Anyways I don't think puffers are easy to breed at all. How about African Butterfly fish (Pantodon Buchholzi)? Eat krill, bloodworms, live crickets, worms, spiders you catch in the house and they can be bred :D On top of that they stick to the surface so you could still have some peaceful fish in the middle/bottom.

Just make sure the tank is covered becuase they can and will jump

thanks guys. What else instead would be good. Or what would be some good middle or bottom fish to go along with these fellas. Like I said not all criteria need to be met we just looking for something new and fun. Thanks for the start lots of time to decide.

Cichlids are cool.., they range in temperment depending on species.,., from somewhat peaceful to down right mean.,., some have color that would rival salt water fish.,., theyre all carnivorous.,., fairly easy to care for and IMO make a great display if done properly.,., add some plants.,., lotsa rocks..., and a bag of ghost shrimp.,., and sit back and watch awesomeness ensue,..,lol.,., good luck on whatever you do pick.,., and if your smart.,., youll let you girl.,., hide your money from you.,.,hahahaha

yes south american are great my fish of choice but not the best for a 20. yet convicts are but that is about the only one or just a fire mouth but not for life. all of the other s/a will get over six inch to big for a twenty

Thanks to everyone for their help this is awesome. I don't think I want to life it in a 20 gallon too small of a tank just have it laying around and want to use it. I love the above idea cause there are some cool plants I want to play with. As far as the money its her on fault she thought getting me into fish would give me something to look after so I would calm down before bed and end the awful work dreams. She didn't think it would become my addiction, she's mad cause I quit smoking 5 months ago but now I'm pissing that money away on fish. She doesn't want the money cause then we'll end up with the same amount wasted on bras and be in the same spot. I think we are resigning to a life with fish bras and no money!
