I just picked up a 55 gal. and I'm going to stock it in a couple of months (once the cycle is over). I've had my eye on corys for awhile. Does anyone have info on these guys? I believe they stay small, 4" - 5", correct? Do I need to provide lots of hiding spots for them? I've heard they help to clean the substrate, is this true? If they root through the substrate, can I still use Flourite in the substrate for my plants or will that injure them? What temps do they prefer? pH? I plan to keep my tank around pH = 7 and 80 deg. F. Lots of plants (will take quite a while for them to fill out in the tank, I suppose...), driftwood, perhaps a couple of caves in there as well.

There are many types of Corys. Some grow larger than others, I think 1-3" is average size you'll find. I have a few, one for around 3 years now and none are *that* big. I have one spotted that is a giant compared to the others at maybe 3"...

I keep mine in the mid to high 70's, I read on here and other places they don't do well in warmer waters.

That PH should be fine, as my tanks were around that for a long time but now are in the 6's.

They do dig in the substrate, I use Eco complete and it's fine. The small size is better for them any way they are able to really dig.

Yes do provide plenty of hiding spots, mine are usually under a rock or a log relaxing.

you wont find many cory's if any that reach 4-5 inches.. majority stay small... theres also many types of cory's and they generally do better in small groups.. from 2-5 there awsome fish

I was planning on picking up atleast 3 corys. I'm not sure which I will go with yet but as the time approaches I will post questions about my selections!

The larger the group the more entertaining they will be and the more interaction there will be.

Are there any fish I shouldn't keep with these guys? I have a peacock eel (approx 7") that may end up in the new tank as well. Will larger, faster moving fish bother them?
