Hello. So currently I have a 120G tank with a FX5 and a AquaClear 110; A 55G with a AquaClear 70 and a Hydro V Sponge Filter; A 29G with a AquaTech 20-40.

My parents won't let me get any more than three tanks. So I am giving the 29G to my sister. I will then get a 90G tank and move my 6-8" red tiger oscar from the 55 to the 90. This brings me to my first question. What other fish could I put with the Oscar? Also I will need to upgrade my filtration. I just gone done setting up my 120G tank so I am low on funds. I have enough for a new filter and the tank but nothing else. I was thinking about purchasing the filter now and using it on the 55 for the time being. I was thinking about getting the Aquatop CF500 with UV canister. Will this be enough paired with a AquaClear 70 for cichlids in a 90G tank? Any better suggestions? After the move is completed, I am planning on making the 55G tank Saltwater.

as far as stocking with the O .....med. cat ..like a raphael or syno. and your wanting filtration for that tank? I'd do an ac110 and 2 hydro 5 sponges stacked on a small powerhead, like an ac 50 size.or just use that ac 70 you already have +the ac110+1 sponge filter on airpump

Ok thank you. I should've made this more clear, when I asked for stocking advice I meant other cichlids. My fault. I don't really want to use the Hydro V at all as it is so big. I don't mind using a HOB but I would like to pair it with a canister. I was thinking the Aquatop CF500 and a AC 70 for the 90 gallon tank. Is this a good or bad idea?

already been over this on your other thread asking the same thing but, your 90G wont hold many other cichlids, your best bet would be to try another oscar and hope they get along which is pushing it but if you really want another fish this is the path I would go, a 100G should be the bare min but as long as water changes are done 2 times a week when they hit a decent size you should be fine else territory issues come into play.

The biggest issue I can see is your oscar has grown up without other fish so bonding may not be easy, if you do try to add other fish add them to the new tank at the same time.

as for the filter I would still go with a fx5/eheim/2nd hob.

Honestly if you just google or use the MFK search for the topic you can get 100s of pages and have a read rather then waiting.

maybe a convict sized cichlid would work , but in a 90 it'll be iffy.as far as filters the aquatop filter will probably work fine ....but if it doesnt I dont know about how their customer service is.the ac70 might not fit on the tank but if it does its a fine filter.good luck in you fishkeeping-

Yea sorry. I reposted that in this section hoping to get more feedback but it didn't really work. I don't really want to upgrade if I can't get anymore cichlids. I was thinking about my Oscar, a JD, a convict pair and then a Pleco.

My Oscar actually grew up with another red tiger Oscar for the first 3 months but then the other Oscar got Popeye and unfortunately passed away. I tried everything to save him. I medicated the tank and everything. That was about 2 months ago.

I don't really want to get another fx5 as I just bought one and it wasn't cheap.

are you a good diy person? U can build a sump pretty cheap and get decent results.

if you really want a oscar and a jd + con pair, save up a bit more and get a 110-120G I doubt the difference is that much and I am sure u can buy one second hand for very little, they sell for 100$ here and I live in the most over priced country lol.

Thats would I would do, look for a second hand tank drilled with a sump system 100G+ for no more then lets say 100$ your budget for the 90G tank. Then look it as your getting a decent sized tank + filter for 100$ extra when a filter would set u back 100$, I am sure u can find something if i didn't find craiglist so awful to read I would look for you! if you dont find one right away wait and see what comes up, few days ago 2x 8x2x3 tanks sold for 500$ here they got for around 1.5k each brand new so theres always someone everywhere wanting to get rid of stuff.

Then you have what you want + efficient filtration and tank size which I call a win/win!

i'd sell everything and get one nice big tank! lol :)

I could probably build a sump myself but if not I know my dad could.

Will that extra 20-30 gallons really make a difference? The reason why I say this is because I just setup a 120 gallon tank and it set me back around $1,300 for everything. I am only 16 and so I'm only making minimum wage at my job. I'm pretty sure I could setup a 90 gallon tank for around $600-$700. I look on Craigslist every day for 75+ gallon tanks and in my area there is very few. And the ones that do come up are people wanting what they paid for the setup brand new. The second problem I have was that my parents won't let me have more than three tanks. So I am giving my 29 gallon to my sister. My dad said if I cant get a tank any bigger than 90 gallons or my third tank. I'll see what I can do to get another 120 but it's not looking promising.
