HEY IM NEW TO THIS FISH THING I JUS GOT A 80 GALLON TANK FER FREE AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT IN IT any suggestions?

awwww, a newbie. Well, tell us what you would like. :)

Do you want a community of fish, or do you want one big monster. There are a lot of ways you can go.

Tell us what you would want, and we'll help you out fish wise. :)

Rule 1. Make sure your stand is strong enough to hold the tank.
Rule 2. Get the tank as level as possible.
Rule 3. Have fun and be creative, your local fish store can be a great resource. I would recommend checking out all of the stores in your area and talk to the people inside. Find the one you like the most and they can guide you!

Hiya Krazydoode and mikebrady, welcome to MFK!
I need to ask a couple questions about your taste in fish and about the tank,
first what are the dimensions of the tank, 80s can be short and wide or narrow and long, the wider ones allow for fewer but bigger fish, great tank to start with either way.
next what kind of accesories do you have, lights, filters, etc. mainly filters, big fish need heavy filtration but lightly populated tanks can get by with less.
And now the fun stuff. What kind of fish do you like, as a beginner you will probably want hardier, more forgiving fish than things that require specialty envirornments. That still leaves lots of choices. Some people like fish from just one area per tank and others mix them up, I do both. Do you like lots of small-medium community fish, predators, big fish?
Slender pikelike fish or beefy bodied bass like fish, colors, stripes, or silvers? Would you like territorial nesters that will breed for you like cockatoo apistos or dwarf pike cichlids?
Think about it a little and let us know, we all have different ideas about what goes in a fish tank but between us I bet we can help.
