rhode island of course
i am setting up a new tank, it is a 65 gallon. i currently am keeping c.a. cichlids. and i know that they like driftwood. but i was wondering, wat i should do for substrate should i do a mix..... also pics would be nice

My choice would be Pool Filter sand (natural color) mixed with a few natural stones. My 90 gallon tank is done up like this with a monster piece of driftwood running up the middle.

my sand always kicks up and messes up my filters when my fish take off fast.....i like dark gravel i think it brings out the color of the fish better

I've heard of people using coal, though I understand you ahve to be careful of impurities. I have a tank with Home Depot pea gravel with a lot of coal in it and it is doing great.

Home Depot or similar stores also sell crushed gravel of a grayish-black color that really brings out the fish's colors. It is a little dusty, but has worked great so far in my cichlid tank.
