Hi im staring my first reef tank in a 55 with a lot of live rock.
how should i stock it with fish and inverts

you should stock it slowly a couple fish every few weeks. you dont want to overload the system on your new tank. and you need to see what works. dont rush anything.
 
Get a couple of damsels to first start off your tank. They are the cheapest and will help your tank cycle. Then buy some hermit crabs. They help clean the tank. After that getting anything you want, just don't overstock the tank. Get fish the will be okay in a 55 gallon tank. As said befor don't rush anything.
 
as the guppiman said, start small. a couple damsils, then some cleaners about a week and a half in. If you want to take a chance (depending on what type of fish you are plannin on stocking you tank with) and get a hardy fish at about 2 weeks. Dont spend to much on this one though. After about 4 weeks your good to go and you can start having fun with it. If you have alot of live rock in your tank now (over 55 lbs) you will be completly cycled in a little over 2 weeks though
