Got a 75 gallon tank and stand from craigslist!:drool::drool: Outside of needing a new hood its in good condition, and the guy also gave me his canister filter. This is significantly larger than my current tank so I realize filtering and heating are going to need to be handled differently and rather than blunder about and end hurting or killing my fishies I would rather you fine individuals fill my head with the right way to do this.

75 gallon tank
Fish:
2x Senegal Bichir
1x Ropefish
1x Leopard Bush Fish
5x Giant danio
1x BGK

What do I need for my heating, my filtration, my substrate etc...

i always go for the 200 watt heaters, u know that hey can do the job easily...filtation, hmm i'd go with sum sort of canister and substrate got for a natural look gravel or black with heaps of amazon swords!! hehe

get sand and may be a hob filter 2 other that go 2 your lfs and find the right size heater that you can put completly under water that what i would do
how much did you get it for

$150 for the tank stand and filter plus he delivered it

Canister, fitted very close into the lid, sand substrate, lots of plants and a 200-250 watt heater depending on room temps.

My apartment stays at around 70-74 degrees. The canister he gave me was used for a saltwater tank, I'm going to replace the pipes and media and all that anything else I need to do with it?

A thorough cleaning should be sufficient. Make sure that you use the intake screen and that the top of the tank is well sealed.
