im thinking of setting up a 55 gallon tank.what is the frist fish i should think about get for the tank ? cleaner ?

If you dont have any tanks zebra danios are good to cycle your first tank then make good dithers and later snacks for your bigger fish

If you want algae eaters or catfish, then get those first. They tend to be quite hardy due to the environment they live in. Pick wisely, though, I wouldn't use a zebra pleco.
You can also use livebearers (guppies, swordtails), they can be used as feeders at the end.HarleyK
If you want a cleaner fish try a pleco, ottos, or maybe a school of cories. What do you want the final stock to be? A community? predator? cichlid?
I don't think it would be a good idea to use put cleaner fish in the new tank. There's probably nothing for them to clean
