Hi i just bought a used fish tank. Not sure how many gallons it is. It measures 8' by 2' by 30". Its acrylic it has 6 drilled holes which i plan to plug.

My qustion is what do i need to run this tank efficiently. I currently have a 75 gallon with a Male Dovii, a Flowerhorn, A Mayan, and a Xingu I pike. I plan to transfer the pike and Dovii into this tank.

What should i buy, how many heaters and what wattage? What kind of filters and how many? Also how many fishes can go in there?

Thank You.

Pictures of the drilled holes. Not sure how i could set up a sump with the holes the way they are drilled. 3holes on one side and 3 more holes on the other side. the holes are 1 inch.

looks like the previous owner(idiot) removed the overflows that use to go around the holes... not a big deal you can just make some standpipes and use those.. however you would want to add some bracing for the standpipes to keep them from getting broken off if/when someone(fish) decides to go behind them and thrash around..

my vote is that since they(idiot) removed the overflow boxes... blanking off the holes would be the way to go... since the tank is acrylic it would be VERY easy to drill the tank again and set up a sump for it..

buying a premade sump (thats big enough to handle the bioload you could throw at it with that much room) will cost you... mm... $400+the cost of the pump+media+plumbing

or you could build one for maybe $70+pump+media+plumbing

media and plumbing will run you between $50-$200 depending on what you decide to use... bioballs and such will cost a lot more than using scrubbies.. and scrubbies (for that many) will cost you more than using swampcooler media (use the untreated blue hoghair stuff.. 1"x20"x30' will run you $20-$30)

theres about a million diy sumps.. do some research and fingure out what you think you want then ask whatever questions you have

btw nice pick up
