i have a 125 setup right now and am going to be setting up my 300 soon was just wondering if i put my new sump thats going on my 300 on my 125 for a few weeks can i just put the fish right into the new tank when i set it up? or will the new tank have to go through a cycle still?

You can greatly reduce the normal cycle by using your filter on a tank already set up. I would do what you mentioned, but when the new tank is set up, move the filter over and slowly increase the fish count. This would give everything time to mature.

Others might disagree with me but I think u r set if the given water healthy from the get go for ur fish, the point of tank cycling is to build up a colony of BB on ur filteration or am I wrong?
And ur filteration established that

Isn't there any way to take the all biomedia on your current tank and simply put it in the sump of the new tank when it's set up? That will also work.

I'm worried that if you add another filter onto your existing tank, the bacteria will colonize it too, but because there are two filters, the colony on both will be rather thin, so that when you move the fish, the sump is only equipped to handle half the bioload. Does that make sense?

Ok I was wondering if adding 300 gallons of new water would still go through a cycle. I am not too worried about not having enough bio bult on the sump because 125 is overstocked and under filtered
