Hi All,

This is my first post. I haven't had a tank since 1996. But, I just ordered a tank. I would like to use some driftwood in it, but hear so many different ways in which it should be cleaned. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Wayne

congrats on the new tank. What size is it?i had to ask lol Driftwood all depends on the person. If your looking for a couple pieces with all the tanins gone hit craigslist or manzitaman on here. I personally like the yellow hue the tank gets from the new piece. Have you thought about what fish your throwing in there?

it all depends on how big the piece is.small ones can be boiled for 15 minutes.big pieces you can soak for as long as you like, then put it in the tank,or power wash it,weight it down in the tank.don't use any soft wood in the tank

Wow! Thanks for the welcome! I have ordered a TRUVU 180 Aquasystem with a built in wet/dry filter and AquaticLife 72" T5 light fixture. I is coming in a couple of weeks. I have some driftwood - about 10, 12 inch pieces -already that was bought at local pet store in Boston, but they have never been in a tank and I have never used it before. I plan on cycling it with some platies as my niece just lost all hers. And then having a huge school of Tiger Barbs, with a ground crew of 24 or so Corys. I start the tank with an easy assortment of live plants and such.... When I get my sea legs, I might try something a little more difficult. Thanks for the help all.

Welcome to mfk and congrats on the new tank. I would boil the drift wood unless you like the yellow water.:)
