well my brother moved and gave me his 55gallon salt tank with a bunch of live rock and his 29gallon(was a QT) with some live rock...i had a little bit of the old water and filled it up and added some salt last night...

theres no fish in eathier of the tanks...

my question is what else do i need todo i dont plan on buying fish for a while... i havent read up on salt tanks for a while...but i know i need to get a hydrometer what does it need to read?

any other advice is welcom thanks

Do waste your money on a hydrometer. Buy a Refractometer. I know 50.00 sounds like alot but it will be one of the most improtant things you will buy. I bought the most expensive hydro and I balanced it with a Refract that I bought and it was .003 off. That is alot because I keep my salinity at .025. So that means it was .028. Here is a link where I bought mine.

so what should i keep it at?? i plan on keeping like a pair of clowns and a few other fish...nothing crazy...i also have live rock and want to get some anemomies(sp) and porbally some other stuff like that

Well until you put inverts in it you can have it at 1.018 with fish only. If you add inverts then 1.023 and corals 1.024-.025

REMEMBER NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS FAST IN A SALT TANK. Take your time do things right.

right now there are 2 little cleaner crabs in it...they survived the move...
