Hi All,

I'm no stranger to Cichla, however this is the first time I have ever had any that are under 6" and am looking for any tips and advice?

I got 10 x 2" Temensis, arrived today and I acclimatised and released them into the tank, I have read that the temperature should be nice and high to prevent ICH so I have got it at 29deg but was just wondering if there are anymore helpful tips? I will try feeding tonight, I will try crushed massivore and bloodworm.

Cheers in advance

Sounds like your on it. Make sure there is an airstone in there as well.
Start w/ smaller 15% wc's and go up from there. Smaller bass are more delicate.

Everything you said plus Gangsters suggestion just about covers it.

Not to teach you to suck eggs, but be careful what you put with them at that size - so often do you see someone try and grow a 2" TSN or RTC with them and it always ends with the peacock bass being eaten unfortunately.

LOL yeah no worries they are in a tank on their own... 180g growout for now, got another 220g to split them to when they get a bit larger too. what sorta growth rate should I expect? I have been told 2" a month is not unreasonable to expect when they are small?

Was going to feed bloodworm 3 times a day until they are a bit larger and then try and get them on massivore... does that sound ok?

Gangster, how often would you suggest 15% water changes? just weekly or more frequently?

Figure on average about an inch a month, some may grow a little faster but an inch is average I would say. I do 50-70% water changes each week but be careful when they are still small as they are sensitive to changes in water chemistry. You may want to do 2 25% changes each week till they get up to 5-6 inches. Lets see some pics.

I would do the first wc at about 15%. The second one i would do in 3 days or so at about 20%. Then in another 3-4days 25%. Then stay steady at 25% for a few wc's about 2-3x a week. After that first month you should be able to do 30%wc's for a another week or 2 then id start making em a little bigger.

FOr food. Start w/ frzn blood worms. Thaw the bw out in a little cup. Drain that water. Crush up 2 massivore pellets. Stir it in to the one cube of bw. SO its kinda like a paste. Let it sit a few minutes. Feed a dab at a time by spoon. They should hammer the mixture. Over a few days time add a little more massivore into the mix while keeping the bw the same. Eventually its straight pellets ;)

This guy was 3" on March 1 to date he is 8"+ and over 2" in body height. So you can expect 2" per month easily! And a very heavy feeding bill ;) good luck
