Hello, I just acquired a 12inch tiger shovelnose/ red tail catfish hybrid from the lfs I work at and I was just wondering how big I should expect this guy to grow? he's currently in my 120 gallon with 3 red headed cichlids a female flowerhorn and a tiger datnoid all around the 6 inch mark. for filtration I have a fluval 406 and an aquaclear 110.

Thanks for the responses, from what I know it was originally bought as a 1 inch juvenile from a lfs that imports from singapore (so I assume farm) also I do about a 25% water change in my 120 every 2 weeks so I think he should grow pretty good.. he's very mild tempered also

I forgot to mention before there's also an 8inch ornate polyterus in the tank, I hope they wont fight considering there both bottom dwellers, what do you guy's think??

I think the ornate will probably end up as dinner, eventually. theyre feisty but if the the TSNxRTC stays true to its growth it will be big enough to have ornate spaghetti in no time. Also, you're the TSNxRTC will grow out that tank. is it a 120 wide? or Long? either way i would recommend at least 500 gallon tank for a life time.

I kind of knew the answers myself just wanted a second opinion lol its a 120 long but I may get rid of him in another year or so

I'd expect 2' in 1-1.5 years and likely no more than 2.5'. It's rare for them to get to 3' in small tanks.

They are all farmed. They are man made. None are wild caught. Either cheaply farmed in Asia or culled from food fish operations in South America. In both instances, they do not bear good genes.

I am concerned for ALL its tank mates. They are all of the size that it can swallow or attempt to swallow. Give it some time. It may be timid now but one day it will show its predatory nature. Its mommy, the TSN, is 100% predator while the daddy, the RTC, is an opportunist, omnivore, and scavenger.
