First of all I am an idiot for not doing my homework but i bought what was sold to me as a tire track eel. The kid at the store told me "It won't get much bigger than it is now(about 6"). Upon further reading I undersand it will get much larger. Can anyone tell what average size and what do they coexist well with.I currently house it in heavily planted 125 gal. with a bunch of tetras and small fish but it's so cool I want to set up a tank around it. I,m surew my tetras won't last forever if I don't.

Well your tetras will soon become tasty meals for your eel and any other small fish. I've just recently got a tiretrack eel about the same size as yours had him in a 20g with some sword tails and a woke up one morning to a half eaten swordtail, he is now in a 55g with 3 medium serverums and a 6inch rapheal catfish. My understanding is they can reach about 30inch in captivity. Looking forward to having him in 125g soon as I move. Mine eats redworm like there's no tomorrow and has grown about an inch in a half since I've gotten him a month ago. Also keep your tank covered or reduce the water level. While sitting at the PC in the middle of the night my eel decide he needed to get out for a bit. As far as tank mates I'm planning on keeping him with the severums and the rapheal catfish also looking to get some birchir's. Wanted to got with a planted tank but I've been told severums enjoy plants to much so my tank will have plenty of driftwood for hiddening. I'll keep an eye on this thread since I also like to know what else I can possibly have with my eel.

Your cute 6" tire track eel will get to be about 3 feet long and thick as your arm. In the end you wont be able to keep any small fishes. My boy took a bite and killed my 6" congo tetra!

I have a 26" tire track, when it was about 20" I kept it in a planted tank. This did not work well, it up rooted most all the plants in the tank. Now that he is as big as he is I have to watch what decor I use. He can move most anything around the tank.

OMG!

When I read the subject line of this thread before I clicked on it I thought the poster was gonna say he ran over an Eel with his car or something.

Oops.
