shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I have a 90gal I am considering setting up as an african ciclid tank. I want to have alot of fish in it since they dont get as big as SA cichlids, but Ive never kept any. Any advice or places to go for startup information?

Do some searches here for info on the particular cichlids you want to keep, cichlids.com is not a good site for info, mainly just pics. Have you decided what lake you want to keep? Maybe give us a little more info on what you want to keep and we can offer you some direction.

Also, while reading, if you come up with specific questions we will try our best to field them... just try to keep it in this thread so we know what you have been told and what is missing! Hope that you enjoy your tank!

If your going for the colorful setup then you should try mbuna, peacocks could also be in the mix. If you want to have lots, then stay away from haps because they get about as big as some SA cichlids. My personal favorite are tanganyikans. There is so many options to choose from. Take your time in choosing which ones you want to keep, Although they are all fun to keep. Don't buy on impulse because you might find yourself saying, "I should have went with those ones" It happened to me. I agree with the above responses, DO some research about the different species and varieties. You can't go wrong with african cichlids. Update us on your tank!

This may sound like a really stupid question and probably is, but are Haps non Mbuna fish??? Mbuna are Malawi right??? Please forgive my ignorance fairly new to Africans only had Aust natives before these

Haps are more open water than mbuna, Haps are normally found in deeper waters as well. Mbuna are rock dwelling cichlids. Tank design must be taken into consideration when chosing between the two types.
