Hi Everyone! My mom and I just moved into a house that has a pond next to it. It turns out that it is a run off pond. The people that we got the house from have set up an aerator and put in a few koi. From what I understand, there are now thousands of them in the pond and I have been told the former orders were told they needed to get at least a thousand fish a year out out of the pond. Today we caught a huge white koi and another butterfly koi. Do these guys have names and what would there possible worth be?

First photo is "Shiro Bekko". Decent pond quality fish and very good size! But no need for getting fish in hands or onto grass because damage fish slime coat protective layer.

They won't be worth anything if they're cut up, have ick or are dead. :( Please handle them carefully. They are worth exactly what someone would be willing to pay. They need a very large pond, so sending them to anything smaller than a few thousand gallon outdoor pond would be cruel. Post an ad locally an see if anyone is interested, then offer them for cheaper than the lfs. Good luck and please be kind to them.

Not sure what its like over in the US, but i know in Asia its all about the different patterns etc that each koi has that determines the prices a lot of the time...

Either way, as the others have said, if you take care in catching them and take care of keeping them then you could make a few bucks off them i'm sure, but will also depend a lot on how much people are willing to pay...

Koi are not expensive at the small sizes but if you find a pond contractor or store as well as local adds in sure u can make a few bucks on them. Depending on how many you have you could go 1-3 bucks an inch I'd say

I've heard of rare, show quality koi going for a few thousand $$$s. The bigger the better. little ones are worthless. Generally if its full grown, monster you could do 300-400$ apiece so long as its not stunted or unhealthy and its decent quality. Id say <3" 4$, 4-6" 8$, 7-9" 14$, 10-13" 25$, 14-16" 45$, 17-19" 65$, 20-26" 100$, 27"+ 200$
I believe they can reach 3ft.
Koi live VERY long (more than a century!). They can take many years to reach full size although they grow fast at a young age.
Keep in mind this is California pricing (cheap) if you live in an area where fish stuff is more expensive it will cost more.
