hi all how you doin
i have finally decided to make the big move from africans that i have done for about 4 years now to americans and im glad i have makes a nice change and so many wicked fish to choose from.

my tank is a big 5ft rena which i think is around 130 gallons and i have stocked it with these fish what you think?????

1 jack dempsey
1 red terror
3 jags which will go down to 2 when if there is a pair (hopefully)
2m&2f convicts which will go down to pair
1 texas
plec
2 polleni which i didnt have the heart to let go of
1 vieja fenestrata i think or something like that forgotton the name
2 nicaragu

cheers jake

seems overstock to me. Going to have some problems when the convicts start to breed. If you want the jags to breed i would highly consider getting rid of most of the fish. Maybe pair of jags and pair of convits mite work but don't quote me on that.

yeah it prob will be overstock but right this min they are all small apart from red devil and polleni

definitly overstocked those are some big mean basturds. I overstock a lip bit to cut down on agression which I bet ur used to keeping Africans as I did for many years I found that and all sorts of plants and rockwork being the obly way to keep them in community tanks but hey try it out it might work(with all sorts of filtration and w/c) and live and learn till u get it right I was young and never had anything besides barbs tetras and etc and I decided I wanted a cichlids tank so I bought 3 full grown Africans for the twenty I had LOL well to make a long one short after about 3 weeks I was left with a male kenyi then I wondered why all the fish I bought to take the twos place keep being slain lol but yea live and learn

the red terror, jags, fenestrata and breeding cons are what will really cause problems. in that size tank, if the jags are breeding then I'd recommend not trying to keep anything else with them. You could probably do one pair of breeding cons and then a bigger, more robust cichlid like the fenestrata and probably the JD.

Personally, I'd probably try to keep the 2 polleni, fenestrata and dempsey and add some schooling dithers (silver dollars perhaps).

:)

Congratulation on finally deciding to keep some real fish! :D :grinno::D Or at least ones with a little more personality eh? :)

Do you have any other tanks? Those fish you listed could seriously be a lot of fun, but you really should split some of them up due to aggression and available space.

Main thing I see wrong with your tank though is that there are no Crenicichla listed. :ROFL:Gotta have Crenicichla if you are gonna try SA/CA cichlids! :headbang2

You should put the nics, convict, and texas in the same tank. It really depends on size though. Nics are among the most peaceful of CA cichlids you can get, where as festae can be among the more aggressive of SA cichlids you can get. Passive with aggressive normally doesn't work good. Just from past experiences.

The Vieja, jags, and festae would do good in a tank together though. Many people actually have that set up. :)

Bout the polleni, they are indeed great fish. It would probably go better with the nics, convicts, and texas though. ;)
