So I just got rid of 7 different cichlids all of about 6 inches or so give or take. All cichlids were different species including a Jack Dempsey, green terror, Oscar, convict, jaguar, blue Texas, and a zebra tilapia. People at my fish store had told me they were surprised no hybrid pairs were formed from these 7 different cichlids. So I now have an empty 135 gallon tank. I want to get a pair of cichlids, although I'm not sure what species yet, and I know you're supposed to get about 6 juvenile cichlids and raise them together. I've tried this in the past with some Mayan cichlids and ended up with the dominate one killing the other 5 off before a pair was ever formed. Watching each fish end up in the corner and then dieing one by one was very frustrating. I was tempted to take the dominate fish out but I didn't because I figured the next fish would become dominate and the same thing would eventually reoccur. I don't want this to happen again this time and am wondering if anyone has any tips to get a successful pair to form, or what I should do in the case of one fish killing all the others. Any help is appreciated.
