Alright my boss is giving me a 100gal tank for free he said it comes with everything but fish and water. He said the pump is old and probably needs a new one so first what size pump should i get? I assume its an external cause its on a wood cabinet. I dont have the dimensions all i know is its rectangle and 100gal.

Also what should i go ahead and replace before i get started if anything?

What are good pretty beginner fish i dont like goldfish....so anything but that

Real of fake plants? i Work 12 hour nights 5 days a week so i need this to be as low maintenance as possible but i want the fish to be well taken care of.

Start up.....Ive read so many different ways to start a new tank but what is the best?

Bottom feeders now or wait? i like the shimp and lobsters but at first would they do more harm than good?

What id like is tropical freshwater fish brightly colored passive no fin nippers and variety.

Ive had a goldfish and koi pond before but it pretty much took care of itself im new to tanks any advice and helpful tips would be awesome.

thank you

Knowing tank dimensions can make a huge difference on what you can stock depending on the route you want to take...

You mentioned things like shrimps and crays... So with that i'm guessing you are thinking of more of a community type setup?

So yeah, i guess you need to consider what you want from the tank first and foremost; i.e a large-ish wet pet, a community tank, a predator type tank etc...

Once you have some idea of the direction then im sure you'll get quite a few recommendations here...
