ok so i just got my silver arrow in a 125gallon tank. he is about 5-6 inches. i am looking for some tank mates for it for a little while. while i try to find/build a larger tank over the next year. how does this sound for filtration, i have 2 emporer 400 and a fluval 405 on the tank with 2 250w heaters. any help would be appreciated thanks

Just wait on tank mates for a few month months. Once it is 11-12" you'll have a large variety of tank mates to choose from as long as they are big enough to not be eaten. Any aggressive fish such as cichilds should be limited to half the aro's length. So less then 6"long.

Your silver aro will grow fast, 1 to 1.5" per month and even may have growth spurts of up to 3" per month. So you may need have that new tank ready in as little as 6 months.

Also secure your tops, no matter how small the hole. Way to many arowana end dried up dead on the floor.

is it ook to run power heads with aros

At 5-6" powerheads can overwhelm arowana. It'll probably just avoid the area but if it seems to be a problem just direct the flow to the glass.

is it normal for them to just sit at the top and not really swim around

They do that when they are new to the tank. Give it a few days and it'll get used to it's new surroundings. One thing you could do to help it feel more secure is to throw in some floating plants.
