i am planning a tank and the plan is to have a black arowana, some oscars, a peacock bass and probably a gar. the tank will probably be 8'x4'x3'. the question is what would be some good BIG bottom dwellers?

A couple of nice big plecos :)

You should be able to pick them up for next to nothing from people with normal sized tanks and give them a good home in yours.

Are you looking for active fish?
Then some cats, Tig, Lima, Giraffe, channels or bullheads. RTC or TSN might gat to big even for that tank. Come to think about it the channels might also.

thanks for all your help. i think my two favorites are the tiger-striped catfish and the giraffe catfish. would i be able to put both of these in the tank?

They should be fine..

Should be OK, others on MFK keep them together.

watch the pbass, they might be able to eat all of the other fish you've listed at some point, i'd really worry about the black aro getting eaten by it.

Big plecos.....
