I am setting up a 55gallon brackish tank and I want to go with a canister filter but I don't want to get the wrong thing I know that mfk recommends the rena xp3 but is that a good filter for my 55 gallon setup. I also dont want to spend crazy money I found the xp3 for $150 so thats doable. also I would like easy maintenance being that this would be the 4th tank in the house. Please any info would be great

I have switched from fluval to xp3 and never looked back.
Its quiet and it does not leak like my fluvals occassionally did.
Maintenance is pretty norm for canisters. I check it like once a month and make sure there is nothing wrong inside/clean the sponges.
My fav canister so far.

A couple of Eheim 2217 canisters would work great for your 55g

i'd go with fluval all day every day.. i've used them for years and have had almost no problem with them. i did have to actually buy some replacement parts this month.. after 4 years..

i have fluval 404's, 405's and FX5's. never had to replace anything on the FX5's, but the 405's break a little thingie in the top part, they are $5 on ebay. it's just a clip that breaks, and it's a simple fix.
