New to chiclids

Hi, I am trying to get into contact with as many people that know what they are doing. I am recently interested in starting a 40gal tank with african chiclids. I am full of questions and need as much advice as I can get. If anyone has any "autority" websites they recommend I would greatly appreciate it. I am sick to death of seeing "the best way" with two distinct ideas (ie sand vs gravel). I am taking this new undertaking very slow because I want to do everything right. I have a good canister filter, heater, and patients. I just need help with substrate, decor, and tweaks.

Any help is greatly appreciated and I know that as soon as I start searching the forums my knowledge level will increase.

welcome to MFK... the first place you should look and enjoy is the african reef forum.... tons of info and pics and advice and Identifications....you will enjoy it while you learn.... nice to meet you... scroll down to the bottom right hand side of this page to forum jump..and jump into african cichlids... ;) Sit back and enjoy..you will be amazed.

What kind of africans are planning on getting? A lot of africans get too large for a 40gal tank. The decor would depend on which africans you are going to get.
 
I need help with the type of chiclids that will go well in a 40gal tank too... Assuming I get the right type and number of chiclids, I know they like a lot of hiding places but is sand necessary or gravel?

down on the bottom of this page theres a forum jump... click it and go to african reef cichlid forums... and ask this very question and you will get replys and ideas to help you along... and also theres plenty of fish pics to give you a good idea on what you like and how to set up the tank..also ideas on which one and how many would be right for your size tank... good luck and have fun,
