Just getting into cichlids and I only know a little basics. I have a 75 gallon tank so I want to keep them mostly under 6 inches a fish. I would love to see some breeding and I want the most variety possible. I don't know anything about mixing and thats where I need help. I was looking at the following fish because these are the most available to me-- Afr Bumble bee , blue johanni , lamp brichardi , peacock, pseud auratus, pseud kennyi, red empress, red chromide, firemouth and jewl. So I guess my question is, what is a combination of these that I can get the most out of as far as variety and number of fish, and what kind of ph do i need for them? Also if anyone has suggestion on what else that could be cool in my tank, that would be great. Any input is appreciated.

You should first decide if you want Old World or New World cichlids. If you're wanting to pack more fish into your tank, Africans are your better bet. It sounds like most of the cichlids you're interested in are African's anyway except the Firemouth's. Skip the Firemouths and ask a lot of questions about what's compatible here:

the old world cichlids are based in africa, where as the new world cichlids are from america.

most of the sp. you have listed come from africa, and as balton pointed out, if you want to have a higher stock level you will be better off with the african, old world cichlids.

lol. nice. thanks. I've been doing more research and I think I'm going with a tang tank. Which is cichlids from lake Tanganyika in Africa. that would be old world. see. the grasshopper learns fast.

Although this should be in a different section, as you asked I figured I might as well just answer.

I keep two Jewels, they are sweet little fish with lots of personality. They are at the moment in my main tank (but will move in August). They can keep up with fish much larger than themselves, they are not shy and a lot of fun to watch.

hmmm 75gallon is not much to keep utaka/haps so stay with mbuna. You have to remember that for each male you have to keep 2-3 females or more, and do not keep more than one male of each kind. Check internet or write me on prv - will answer later - got to work. :)
