Been reading the forum for some time and this will be my first post! I would like to setup an African Rift Lake tank, at the moment I’m planning to either have a sand base tank or some form of black stone (Any Recommendations?).

From reading the subtract forum, I would require to clean the sand on a regular basis to get rid of any unwanted waste/nitrite. I would also like to put some Texas Holly Rock for decorate in tank.

Tank Setup

 • 2x Eheim 2217
 • Tank Size 3ft or 4ft
 • 1x Heater or 2x Heaters
 • A dual light (1x Blue 1x White)
Live Stock

 • 10x Electric Yellow Labs (Labidochromis caeruleus)
 • Looking at other Cichlids but not sure which ones
 • 2x Pleco Bristlenose
Please provide any feedback on this setup and suggestions to other tank mates, as I would like to setup a health environment for the fish!

Welcome to the website. Malawi Mbuna are a great choice for first time rift lake cichlid keepers. I would think your set up sounds great. I would push hard for the longer foot print (4" instead of 3") and a 55 gallon minimum, with 75 being the better choice. Have fun and let us know how it turns out :)

Thanks for your advise, think I'll go for the 4" tank since I can afford the extra room in the living room.

Maybe a while till I get it setup, hopefully within 2 months
