Im setting up a 150gal. 72x18x29. I was going to go native but I went to my LFS and I was amazed by a cichlid tank they set up. So im leaning toward cichlids. I have some intrest in these fish Electric blue, Female red terror, Venustus, Lamprologus, electric yellow. I want to keep alot so what size should i look for? What do you recommend? What rock do you recommend? And can I keep a pleco with them.?If so what kind?
Thanks in advance.

Plecos get along great with cichlids. Some of my favorite cichlids are Oscars, Jack Dempseys, Green Terrors, Jaguar cichlids, Firemouths, Midas, and who couldnt love the many Discus. Your 150 gallon tank would make a killer Africian Cichlid community tank like 20 or so all different kinds!

Anyone else?

yea like he said plecos go great with chichlids.. pleco type check aquascapeonline.com they are great at shipping cheap plecos

as for the chichlids i like electric blue jack dempsys, oscars, green terros, rd,midas, yellow labs, theres so many to name..

i like all chichlids :)

p.s the more of a variety the better chances of u having hybrid babies

Make sure you do your research before buying the fish, taking into consideration the personalities, size, diets, water requirements, etc when forming your stocklist. You'll need to pick a region (Central American, South American, Lake Malawi, etc) and stick with fish that come from the same area. For example, from the fish you have listed, Venustus, Labs (electric yellows) and the Electric blue's (whatever they are, its too general a term), will all be Lake Malawi fish. The Lamprologus are Lake Tang, and the RT is Central American. It would seem you're partial to the Africans from what you've listed, so you may want to start researching that area first.

You should look into frontosa (Africans) a nice colony in a 150 would be great and you could add some electric yellow labs... That would be a hell of a good looking tank!

Whats a good substrate?

Black sand bottom lots of plants/rocks/ caves and crab some drift wood... :)

u need to go african or south american if u mix the 2 u will lose your africans.for example if put that redterror in with zebras peacocks both african the rt would outgrow them quickly and is far more aggresive with piscavor trates the africans are more vegatarian feeders.this is the main difference between african and sa/ca cichlids besides water differences.
