Hello everyone. Been here quite a while now, but got my first knifefish, a CK, over a week ago. Just had to treat him for fungus, as he was housed with a load of clown loaches, which weren't in the best of health. The fungus he has has disappeared anyway, but i'll keep treatment up for another week or so atleast. He is about 5" long, and so far I have him fed on floating pellets, blooworm, lancefish, and he ate a zebra danio the other day. Now, a few questions:

- What kind of feeders other than danios are suitable for a CK this size?
- He 'yawns' a lot. Like flexing his mouth, is this normal?

Cheers, here's a photo :)

i dont have a ck but i got some oscars and stuff of bout the same size... when i feed them feeders ill throw in some tetras... pretty much anything small they can fit in their mouths... i usually just go for the best meat to money ratio.
just make sure u quarantine them first...

ive fed rosie red minows when mine was about that size and moved up to small feeder goldfish over time

my clown also "yawns" regularly

be prepaired for a huge growth spert. especially if you feed him feeders often.
my clown grew over 10" in one year. i got him last feb at 5" and now he's 15"

hope you have a great big tank ready for him

I wouldnt even bother with feeders if he's eating prepared foods already. Yawning is normal, and expect him to gulp air after eating a lot:)

:iagree: They yawn from time to time. I feed mine FD Shrimp and it gets the occassional feeder treats. I feed it Minnows if anything.

if u can afford to keep him on feeders, rosies are a good way to go at his size. just gutload them suckers and drop 'em in. or many convict or guppy fry.

I think it is terrific that you don't have to get him off of feederes and on to regular food.. you are lucky.. it took me 2 weeks to get my CK off feeders.. not healthy and pelleted is so much better.. good luck with him..he is good looking. :)
